16–19 April 2012
Sun City, Pilansberg, South Africa
Sun City, unique in the context of world resorts, with a combination of features unmatched anywhere, draws thousands of visitors each year to its four top-quality hotels, a Vacation Club plus magnificent sporting and recreational facilities including 2 world class golf courses, and the magical Lost City water-park, The Valley of Waves. Only 187 km from Johannesburg, the resort, situated in the bushveld of South Africa's North West province, is surrounded by the imposing mountains of the Pilanesberg. The wide choice of conference venues ensure a level of convention and banqueting facilities which few can beat.
The series of ʻPasteʼ seminars began in 1999 and each year a seminar is held in either Australia, South Africa, Chile or the Northern Hemisphere. The seminar has been held in Southern Africa in 2001 (Pilansberg), 2004 (Cape
Town), 2008 (Kasane, Botswana) and in 2012 it returns to South Africa.
This seminar has attracted a large number of regular attendees as it is the premier international forum for the development of the technologies associated with the disposal of high density waste tailings. It deals with the developments in dewatering technologies, such as thickening and flocculation, advances in pump and pipeline understanding, and surface and mine backfill.
The seminar series has resulted in the publication of two editions of the ʻPaste and Thickened Tailings Guideʼ, distributed by the Australian Centre for Geomechanics.
The objective of the seminar series is to disseminate the latest advancements in the field of paste and thickened tailings technology by providing a forum to present the work that is being done in the field, and obtain feedback
